NOW IN FOSTER CARE
AUG 24, 2012: Becky is in foster care with Cara at (571) 276-9109 or email at [email removed] . Cara is working with her to help her overcome being feral. As of today, Becky isn’t quite ready for her new home unless it is with a family who is willing and has the time to really work with Becky to help her learn that a good home is a loving and safe place to be. A fenced yard will be necessary. Once she gets a family like that, she’ll do just fine. APR 2012: I'm a female Carolina/American Dingo and am about 5 years old. I have white fur with very soft, cream colored ears. For quite a few years, my mate (Tye) & I were cared for by a retired couple, but we were left to run wild (sometimes with other dogs) and so we did. We also produced at least two litters of the cutest little puppies (all of which were captured and sent to a rescue group in Massachusetts). We chased cars and bicycles for fun. In February of this year, after we knocked a man off his bicycle, our family had Animal Control pick us up and now we are homeless. Almost Home saved our lives, but they are too full to take us in, and we are living in foster care now. But we aren’t allowed inside the house, so we each have our own 10 x 10 pen with a dog house outside. And we are bored, bored, bored! I’m a good dog, I really am. I only chased things because I didn’t think there was anything wrong with it. No one had taught me otherwise. I am extremely good looking—very beautiful! But I’m very shy too (though I’m not quite as shy at Tye). Still, my tail wags enthusiastically when my foster family approaches my pen. I’m glad for any personal attention they give me and I want to trust them, but I just can’t. Not yet. I’m uncomfortable being touched. That’s where you could really help me. My foster mom is a very nice person, but she doesn’t have much experience socializing shy and/or feral dogs and that is what I am. It’s not my fault, of course. I’ve just never been given an opportunity to be a valued family member and I don’t know how to be. As you can imagine, I’m not very good at walking on a leash either, and I’d love for you to teach me good leash walking manners, so we could explore the world together. (I’ve never had a human “best friend” before, but I’d love to give it a try.) There are so many things I need to learn (from YOU) so that I can be your very own dog! I need someone who will help me get used to them by merely sitting with me and reading (to me) or knitting quietly nearby. That way, I would learn that the good people I will come in contact with from now on will mean me no harm. Though I’ve never lived inside a house, I’ve never gone to the bathroom inside a house either, so I’d probably be a very easy “house train.” (It would just seem so WRONG (to me) to go potty inside a house.) Won’t you please think about giving me my best chance at life and adopting me? I’m good with other dogs and if you have another dog or two, they could help teach me how to be a more knowledgeable dog when it comes to living inside your home with you. Oh, how I would love to be loved! And your hands would love the way I feel as we loved up against each other. To learn more about me, please contact: Gretchen at 434-277-5017. JAN 31, 2012: Becky was originally a feral dog. She is now living in a foster home. For more information, please contact Tedi at (540) 456-6519
